Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 1 large head Broccoli (cut into florets)
  • 3 cloves garlic (peeled and finely chopped)
  • 3 pieces green/spring onions (trimmed and sliced)
  • 1 inch piece of ginger (peeled and chopped)

Meat

  • 1.5 lbs skinless, boneless chicken thighs (cut into bite-sized pieces)

Sauces and Seasoning

  • 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Hoisin Sauce (or oyster sauce for less sweetness)
  • 3 Tablespoons light soy sauce (extra to taste)
  • 6 Tablespoons honey (approximately)
  • 6 Tablespoons hot water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by steaming or sautéing the broccoli until it’s slightly firmer than how you like it. Once done, set it aside.

Cooking Chicken

  • Heat a wok over high heat and add a bit of vegetable oil. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides. Once browned, remove the chicken from the wok and set it aside.

Sautéing Aromatics

  • In the same hot wok, add the garlic, spring onion, and ginger, frying them for about 30 seconds. If it looks a bit dry, add a little more oil and toss them occasionally.

Combining Ingredients

  • Return the chicken to the wok. Then, add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and hot water. Bring everything to a boil.
  • Drizzle the mixture with some honey, then cover the wok. Let it simmer for 7-10 minutes, occasionally stirring and drizzling with more honey, until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce has reduced.

Finishing Touches

  • Finally, add the broccoli back into the wok. Toss everything together with the sauce until the broccoli is heated through and everything is well combined.

Notes

Be careful not to overcook the broccoli as it can become mushy. Ensure the chicken is not overcooked in the wok to prevent it from becoming dry. Adjust sweetness with honey and soy sauce to taste.
